the wrap-up run

just a day behind schedule , i finished the training program with a 6 miler today after a 12 miler on monday. everything feels pretty good, except for a slight tightness in my left calf. i've noticed that my left calf has been taking a little longer than usual to loosen during a run, which is a bit worrisome, given my prior injury and physical therapy.

i'm sure it's probably nothing, but it's a good kick in the pants to keep up with my therapy regime until race day. i'm planning on a relaxing wind-down. we're planning on doing some good old fashioned carbo loading at gioco in chicago on saturday night before the race and it'll be nice to have a solid 3 days without running.

i'm planning on running fairly slow for the race. kris has been having problems with her ankle and is likely going to keep a leisurely pace so as not to aggravate the situation. rather than kick dirt in her face, i think i'll do the husbandly thing and run with her. we're keeping around an 11 minute mile pace on longer runs, even with her bum ankle, which is fine by me. the weather looks like it's going to be great ( 62 degrees F and partly cloudly), so it should be a fabulous day for a run.

"I think you devise your own limits for your own personal convenience. There are some people who wish to have limits, and they'll invent as many boxes for themselves as they want. It's like, you know, men invented armor. They wanted to protect themselves from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and so forth. And people do the same thing psychically and psychologically. They build their own armor. They build their own rathole, whatever it is. And they choose their existence. Whether they do it consciously or whether it is helped along by a government or an education system, somebody is helping to shape this imaginary box you live in, but it doesn't have to be there."
